Community for Freshmen
C.O.A.L.S. FX creates a supportive and inclusive community for freshmen in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences as they transition into college life. This premier freshman organization fosters a sense of belonging by connecting students with peers and mentors who share similar goals and interests. Through a variety of social events, service opportunities, and professional development activities, freshmen are able to build meaningful relationships, gain confidence, and feel supported as they navigate their first year. C.O.A.L.S. FX ensures that no student faces this journey alone, establishing a strong foundation for academic and personal success.
Leadership
Leadership is at the heart of C.O.A.L.S. FX, as it equips freshmen with the tools and opportunities to grow into capable and confident leaders. Guided by the Mentorship Committee of C.O.A.L.S. Council, the program emphasizes leadership development through practical experiences, team-building activities, and involvement in service projects. Each mentor within C.O.A.L.S. FX serves as a leader and role model, exemplifying the qualities of effective leadership while encouraging freshmen to step into leadership roles themselves. This intentional focus prepares students to take on greater responsibilities within the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences and beyond.
Mentorship
Mentorship is the cornerstone of C.O.A.L.S. FX, ensuring that freshmen receive personalized guidance and support throughout their first year. The Mentorship Committee, led by a Vice President and Co-Chair, oversees a team of 12 mentors who are dedicated to fostering both personal and professional growth among over 60 freshmen. Each mentor pair, consisting of one male and one female, supports a small group of students, facilitating communication, answering questions, and offering encouragement. By providing a combination of professional development, service opportunities, and social engagement, these mentors empower freshmen to grow into well-rounded individuals and future leaders in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.
